Is The Main Door of Your Home a Portal to Prosperity?

Much importance in given to the Feng Shui of our homes. The front door, as widely agreed upon by many Feng Shui experts, is a very major contributing part of good or bad luck for its owners. The energy that comes into and is found in our houses play a crucial role in whether we lead happy, and successful lives, or we are often struggling with misfortunes. For this reason the main door is often described as “the mouth of Chi”.

“You can never underestimate importance of the front door,” says Master Hanz Cua, well-known Feng SHui master in the Philippines. “This is because your home’s main door is the entry point of good luck and opportunity into your home. Ch’i is the “food” that feeds your home. Like a person who eats very little or is malnourished, a home that does not receive plenty of good ch’i, is weak and stagnant with no energy. Career, income and love life suffers. It follows that your physical health will suffer too. A good front door should be the proper size in relation to the size of the home. It should be bigger and grander than the side or back entrance. A front door that is too small does not permit enough good energy to enter into the home”

It is also possible that your front door will attract the wrong kind of energy, according to Master Hanz. “They way people react when them come to your door directly reflects on the type of energy that your home attracts and what sort of people live there. Is your entrance attractive and inviting, or do people pause or feel intimidated by the appearance or condition of your door and foyer?”

There are several features that a door with auspicious qualities should posses:

  • The front door should be the most beautiful door in your home. Paint it a bright and happy color. Fix anything on the door that is broken or rusty.
  • Do not put scary or gloomy decorations or artwork on your front door and foyer.
  • Do not hang wreath of dried flowers and leaves on the door. Dead organisms attract “dead” energy. If you wish to decorate with plants, they should be live plants or colorful silk flowers. Make sure they don’t block the door or get in the way of people walking in or out of the home.
  • The door must open inwards and not outwards. According to Feng Shui the natural access of energy is to push in, not out. An auspicious door when it is opened, swings into the foyer of your home. When you have to pull the door outwards in order to get in, you are going against the flow, and it is difficult for the good ch’i to enter your home as well.
  • The foyer or space in the entry of your main door should be clean, roomy, no clutter, no blockages. Do not put unnecessary furniture, objects or piles of shoes near your entrance. These represent hindrances that prevent or repel good energy and opportunity from coming in.
  • A good door should be solid wood, not glass.
  • Avoid hanging mirrors that are directly in front of the door, because the good luck will “bounce” back out the door.
  • Placing a benevolent deity (angel, happy or serene Buddha) or friendly animal (Foo dogs, elephant) next to the front door can make it welcoming and auspicious.
  • Lights attract opportunity. If your main door is located where it cannot be easily seen when you enter the property, or if the front door located at a low point of the ground than the rest of the house, this can all cause difficulty for auspicious ch’i to find its way into your home. Placing a spotlight near your entrance can help to raise the energy of your main door. Putting footlights along the path leading to your door is also good.
